Students serve as activators in multiple formal and informal ways at Lincoln Elementary. From being a First Friend to a new student to being part of the interview teams for new staff members, students contribute in meaningful ways to the running of the school.
Yesterday Charles City was invited to the annual STEM Day exhibition at the state capitol. There were only 13 schools from around the state of Iowa invited! Attending the event was Kash Kubik, Hailey Nyberg, and Jack Murray. These students represented the Comets with character and were AMAZING!

Students in both elementary buildings learned about inputs and outputs with SAMLabs, a STEM connected kit received by a state grant called STEM Scale-Up. Students learned the aspects of using the devices online and how to connect physical devices via Bluetooth.
Spring conference site is now open for Lincoln and Washington Elementary. Conferences will be held Tuesday, March 3, and Thursday, March 5, from 3:45 pm to 7:30 pm. High School and Middle School will be open house conferences.

Second graders have been learning about The American Civil War during their 6th CKLA Knowledge unit. They've been learning about many historical figures who played a major part in the war. One of those key figures was Clara Barton, the Angel of the Battlefield.
We were able to have a video call with National Park Ranger, Kevin Patti, who works at the Clara Barton National Historic Site. He did a fabulous job explaining Clara Barton's life and her lasting impacts on war and natural disaster responses. At the end of the presentation, second graders had the opportunity to ask Ranger Patti questions.What a fun and fabulous opportunity for our students!
Lincoln welcomed Trooper Tom in this week to share with us important bus safety. It was a great refresher for us all!
Celebrating Reading was a SUCCESS!
10+ classrooms joined in on a Google Meet with Mrs. Kleinschmidt and Ms. Stacey from the Charles City Public Library while they read books. What a fun experience for students and staff alike!

Our 4th grade students took part in a special learning experience — a flag folding ceremony! They learned how to properly care for and fold the American flag, as well as the meaning behind each fold.
